This is a very brief statement of purpose for the organization — it has been taken from the first section of our constitution and by-laws.
The Crandall Family Association, Inc. shall include all descendants of Elder John1 Crandall of Rhode Island. The Association will include (but will not be limited to) the following spelling variants of the surname: Crandal, Crandel, Crandell, Crandle, Crandol, Grandall, Grandell, Grandol, & Krandall. Furthermore, those persons with an interest in the Crandall family and/or its history and traditions, are also welcomed as Associate Members.

The name of this organization shall be the Crandall FAMILY ASSOCIATION, Inc. The purpose of the Association shall be to encourage interest in family history, genealogy, traditions and customs relating to the descendants of Elder John Crandall of Rhode Island. The Association will promote scholarship and preservation of records, mementoes, and significant structures and properties relating to the Crandall family. Membership in this Association shall be open to every descendant (including adopted children) and the spouse of every descendant of Elder John Crandall. The Corporation is to be located in the Town of Westerly, Washington County, State of Rhode Island or such other place that from time to time the Board shall determine. Membership Meetings shall take place yearly on the 3rd Saturday in July, or at such other times as the Executive Board shall decide. The Executive Board shall manage the business of this Association. It shall consist of nine members with three year terms, to be elected, three each year, at each Membership Meeting. Members shall not serve more than 5 consecutive full terms. Each member, 18 years of age or older, will have one vote. Five members shall constitute a quorum. The Board may make decisions not only at its meetings but also by votes in writing (including fax and e*mail) or by telephone when a meeting is not advisable. Should a Board member be unable to complete his or her term for any reason, the Board may appoint a new member to serve until the next Membership Meeting. At that time, the vacancy shall be subject to the regular nomination process for the remainder of the original Board member’s term.
The officers of this Association shall be elected by the Executive Board from among the Board membership immediately following the Membership Meeting. They shall be President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Secretary, and Genealogist. Terms shall be for the fiscal year of the Association, i.e. 1 Aug — 31 Jul, unless said fiscal year is otherwise amended by the Executive Board.
