Unfortunately, the name of Rev. Joseph2 CRANDALL'S wife is given as Deborah Hubbard BURDICK in most genealogical sources. Because of the time frame, it should be pointed out that this is most probably an error. Middle names were NOT found in that particular time frame -- Deborah, daughter of Robert and Ruth (Hubbard) Burdick, was born about 1662. Middle names were not used then!
Someone came along later (and who makes no difference), and added this middle name, probably at a time when it was in vogue for an older daughter to have the maiden name of the mother as a middle name. And, sadly, it's been "hanging around" ever since.
When I first started editing this web site, I thought about dropping that Hubbard from Deborah's name, and now I'm sorry that I did not, as I am helping to perpetuate that myth, too.
Therefore,I am adding this little "P.S. page" about her and about any middle names you might find in that time frame.
Middle names began to be used a little in the early-1700's, but really were in vogue by the late 1700's and still are right to this day!
So, here is yet another warning for all you researchers. I intend to drop the Hubbard from future references to Joseph's wife, but please forgive me if you see it anywhere on these pages — it simply means that I forgot!
